The First Medical Mission of the Section of Rheumatology, University of Santo Tomas Hospital (USTH)

The Section of Rheumatology, Clinical Immunology and Osteoporosis of the University of SantoTomas (UST) Hospital had their first medical mission for the year last Sunday July 1, 2007. Through the special invitation and arrangements made by Dr. Alberto “Ino” Wonchai, the rheumatology consultants and fellows, and staff of the UST Joint and Bone Center led by Section Chief Dr. Sandra Navarra, participated in this mission. This was held at the lecture hall of the beautiful St Francis Xavier parish cathedral in Nasugbu, Batangas. This medical missiion started with a lay forum about Arthritis and Connective tissue disease given by Dr. Lyndon Llamado. He talked about Osteoarthritis, Osteoporosis, and Systemic Lupus Erythematosus. Approximately 60 patients who came from the area of Batangas, received free rheumatology services including patient education (emphasis on regular exercise), medicines, arthrocentesis, and local steroid injections.
